Unfortuantely my favourite bargain wine isn't sold in the UK. Campo Viego Tempranillo (pink label) is sold in Spain for 2 Euros and it a perfectly good mid week red

I remember, with much warm fondness, discovering the delights of Bulgarian reds as a student. They were considerably cheaper than most more accepted and known red wines, but with a pleasant amount of body and flavour.

Many a joyous and amusing evening was bouyed along with a plentiful supply of this cheap tipple.

yes, I remember the bulgarian counrty wine days, good stuff for the price, does anyone think that half price wines are as good as the full price equivalent? I bought some half price Penfolds which was originally £20 a bottle and it was so much better than any £10 wine I had ever tried

There are some wines that are 'half price' which i don't think i've ever seen not on offer! Ilsa Negra and First Cape are never full price and they are definately not worth what the shops claim the full price is

A cheap but quaffable midweek red is Vina Alabali's Tempranillo which seems to be consistently on offer at less than £4. It's obviously not very complex but quite smooth.

I'd love to pretend I'm not a wine snob but sometimes I can't help it, I definitely love great value wine. It's all about Tesco Finest Picpoul - so much more interesting than Kiwi Sauvignon!

Chilean Carmenere is a definite must for a value red wine - especially in this cold weather - it's so warming!!

The 150 cl Isla Negra reds for £5 from tesco tasted a whole lot better than normal Chileans; definitely a sweet taste in my mouth. Pity I'm down to my last case

Picpoul de Pinet. I've yet to see a bottle over a tenner and I've yet to be disappointed by this fab southern french wine.
