Hi, I'm fairly inexperienced when it comes to wine, and would like to know more. Do you know of any good websites that would give me a head start?

Hi Sam,Great to hear that you've developed an interest in wine - as it's such a fascinating subject there's some really great websites out there offering tips and advice. We enjoy Jamie Goode's blog which offers frank, simple descriptions of wine and has a great category selector along the left hand side which allows you to read into new types of wine quite quickly: http://www.wineanorak.com/wineblog/Over on Wine Lovers Page you will find the 'wine label decoder' which is a great translator in reading wine labels and learning a little more about the wines that you purchase: http://www.wineloverspage.com/wines/labels.phtml You may also enjoy reading the 'wine made simple' blogs over on our 'latest from us' tab where our team try to take away the complexity that is often associated with wine and offer some start-up advice.Hope this helps!Hannah
I'm blatantly going to recommend my own site.No technical terms, no jargon and I explain what the labels mean.http://www.winefromatumbler.comWould love to hear what you think.
Cheers SamJust checked out http://www.winefromatumbler.com, and would thoroughly recommend it to everyone. It provides both information and education in a easily understood and enjoyable format. Unlike a lot off websites, it buying suggestions are relevant to the ordinary consumer, both in the price range and availability.I have also found Tom Canavans http://www.winepages.com, very useful for information and buying suggestions. For pure entertainment and education about wine, go to You Tube and seek out, Gary Vanerchuk's old Wine Library TV videos.
I would also like to recommend:http://www.winefromatumbler.com/No pretentious wordsmithing - just good, straightforward advice.
If you enter any of the big wine producers or suppliers onto You Tube, you'll find lots of educational videos and promotional short films of vineyards, production methods etc. Berry Brothers - http://www.bbr.com/ -has a tab on their website named: Wine Knowledge. This is very useful and detailed background.
Give Jancis Robinson's website a look, she has a "Learn about Wine" section http://www.jancisrobinson.com/categories/learn_about_wine.html which guides you through a lot of the basics. I agree with the previous suggestions of Jamie Goode's blog, Tom Cannavan's Wine Pages and Berry Bros website, and would also throw in Chris Kissack http://www.thewinedoctor.com/ .Finally check out CellarTracker https://www.cellartracker.com/new/Default.asp for community wine reviews for wines you're thinking of drinking/buying a wine.
Some great suggestions have already been made. I for one use Jamie Goode's website a lot and also Chris Kissack's The Wine Doctor website has a tonne of information if you want to know a little bit more about wine producing regions, vineyards etc.I should also say, as a shameless piece of self-promotion, that my website, The Riesling Revolutionary www.rieslingrevolutionary.com, aims to demystify the Riesling grape and give useful tips for picking up a decent bottle. A lot of people think Riesling is always German and sweet but that's not the whole story!Cheers
There are lots of wine sites out there, but I found one recently which I thought was pretty good and contains a lot of useful basic wine stuff including a great wines & vines flip book! Try it www.getwinewise.co.uk
Sorry me again as this my frst post I guess I forgot to put the correct format for that Get Wine Wise site so here it is -http://www.getwinewise.co.uk
Hi Sam,Why not try WSET's '3 minute wine school' which is a collection of videos on different regions and wine styles, visit http://www.wsetglobal.com/3_minute_wine_school/default.aspHope you find them useful,Lisa
