My Twelve Days of Christmas Wines

The holidays are a perfect time to share wine with visitors and do some luxury food matching.
My first wine yesterday was the Croix Milhas Rivesaltes Ambre, and this was delicious with home made mince pies. As it is a half bottle, it is perfect to open in the late afternoon and share with a pal in front of the fire. A rich taste of honey and candied fruit, sweet and spicy.

My second day of Christmas Wines today was a rose Cava, taken as a gift to friends. Maybe an inexpensive gift, but one which was appreciated by my neighbours. Fizz always goes down well. Tonight I am enjoying a Pinot Noir from Casablanca in Chile. It is a 2008 so has bright clear pale ruby colour and warm fruity raspberry flavours. No food required to enjoy this one.

We tried an Old Vines Grenache 2010 from Languedoc Roussillon. Rich and fruity, low in tannin and soft to drink. A very decent glass of wine.

Won a case of Oyster Bay wines at the Tesco Wine Fair. Thanks for that guys! Have just opened the OB Rose Sparkling Cuvee. Fruity, red berries and a citrusy zing. Delicious. Now when do the Carols from Kings start???

Big treat last night when we opened a bottle of 2003 Pauillac! Many years ago I lived in Paris and this wine brought memories of favourite restaurants flooding back. Such romantic times... working near the Arc de Triomphe, living in a tiny appartment on the Ile St. Louis and wandering the streets of the 4th arrondissment (the Marais). Dinner was regularly matched to rather excellent wines from tiny local merchants.
The Pauillac lived up to its promise of blackurrant and cedar, and accompanied by a fillet steak with mushroom and cream sauce, was the backbone of a splendid meal!
