Where to start

Hello to everyone, as a new member, blogger and wine enthusiast I feel a little disadvantaged however I am sure there are enough willing members to give me the right steer. As stated I am relatively new to wines (I do know what I like though) and my head is in a spin with all the information and my tongue is tied with all the pronunciation, therefore does anyone have a recommendation for an absolute basics book/website they believe would be useful to me as a starting point. In anticipation.
Thank You
Chappers

Wine from a Tumbler - Gold, 8 Feb 12, 19:47:46

For a book you can't really beat Jancis Robinson's 'The Oxford Companion to Wine'. It's huge – an encyclopaedia of everything about wine – but it's great to be able to look up anything you could ever want to (e.g. syrah, acidity, New Zealand).

I'd love to know what you think of my site www.winefromatumbler.com – I don't use any jargon or technical terms, point out what means what on the labels and also show how to pronounce the grape varieties.

Hi Chappers,

The Berry Brothers and Rudd (BBR) website is also very useful. They have quizzes where you are able to test your knowledge.

Thanks,

Fiona

Hi Chappers,
I'd suggest visiting the WSET website, lots of great information. There is also a '3 minute wine school' which is a collection of videos on different regions and wine styles, visit http://www.wsetglobal.com/3_minute_wine_school/default.asp
Let me know how you get on,
Lisa
